El Mac just posted a couple photos on www.knowngallery.com from this mural he is doing in Campeche Mexico. He is just an unbelievable talent, and I think he is still years away from reaching his peak.

Although this isn’t the most artistic display of Graffiti Art, it is pretty damn crazy… BTW, if this were the U.S., these guys would have been hunted down and waterboarded under the “Patriot Act”.

Canon Pixma: Sound Sculptures.

Paint Sound Sculptures, Dentsu London’s new ad campaign for the Canon Pixma, is a series of lava lamp-looking “paint sculptures” made using sound vibrations. “Visually this film is sound sculptures created from paint using sound frequencies to organically design these formations, these sculptures,” explains Chris Hewitt, who directed the spot. “Because we’re shooting in macro at such high speed, these sculptures become something else — something that we’ve never really seen before.”

ZCDC “CRUISERS” ft. Thomas Duggan for K-Swiss.

ZCDC present their latest video produced in association with K-Swiss. “Cruisers” goes to Venice Beach where it follows the exploits of Thomas Duggan of Venice Cruisers and his love of Schwinn bikes. A number of vintage models are presented alongside Duggan’s insights into the whole bike scene with some of the local beach sights and sounds as the backdrop.

This is another example of when big brands attach themselves to cool cultural happenings in a fresh and creative way while giving exposure to themselves and the subject of their piece… What we kind of consider to be the future of advertising. Props to K-Swiss, ZCDC, and Venice Cruisers (long time Eleventh District locals) for bringing this piece together.

The Humble and Sublime: recent works by EL MAC.

This is a process video showing the creation of a new painting by EL MAC for the upcoming solo show in NYC at Joshua Liner Gallery. Opens October 14th, 2010.

For the record, EL MAC is one of my favorite artist to emerge from the graffiti world into the Modern Art world in the last few years. His stuff is amazing, and there is something extremely sublime about his style, not so much in the sense that you’ve seen it before, but more like it’s from an ancient part of the world that we are still in the process of discovering.

Someone PLEASE give us a job in NYC between Oct 14th and November 6th, so I can see this exhibition!

NOWNESS: Marc Newson “Transport” Video.

Cultural zeitgeists Nowness create a new film documenting the method behind the genius that is Marc Newson. The film takes you into the recent Marc Newson Transport Exhibition, where the artist pieces are on display, from his Nike collaboration to his architectural design approach to cars, boats and bikes. Newson’s love for aviation is highlighted with his philosophy that design should be well made, luxurious and well thought out. His knack for design is clearly evident, as each work is welly executed, modern in design and reflects his innovate aesthetic.

Nike just launched a new campaign featuring vignettes of high action sports moments cut alongside some big named cameos like Bo Jackson, Nndamukong Suh, Tim Tebow and Robinson Cano… but our FAVORITE is this Rick Ross clip. Genius.

Kaws x Dos Equis x Mexico City.

It looks like Kaws just did a very cool collaboration with Dos Equis beer. This is a great example of how advertising agencies and large mainstream companies are beginning to recognize the importance of affiliating their brands with cool cultural pop movements like urban and graffiti art. Props to Kaws, Dos Equis, and the advertising agency behind the collab (not extactly sure who, yet).

Our friends at The Seventh Letter and Known Gallery are proud to present new works by Victor Reyes and Dylan Maddux.

This should be a great show featuring amazing new pop art and photography. You know The Seventh Letter and Known Gallery are always on the cutting edge of the newest and coolest street and pop art, so even if you can’t make it to the opening on September 25th, be sure to stop in and check out the exhibit while it’s going on through October 16th.

‘War Paint’ is a visual commentary on the journey from Victor Reyes’ Southern California roots to present day and encapsulates his sentiments about Graffiti as a medium and a vehicle for artists. A process distilled over the last decade, these conceptual and literal images are a survey of the artist’s feelings about the potential of his community and the hidden meaning of the writing on the wall.

Victor Reyes has been painting since the early 90s; his work has been shown extensively around the world, in Bosnia, Germany, Switzerland, Taipei, Japan, and Miami. Recent shows include MISSPELLED at Robert Berman E6 Gallery San Francisco, blue.print.for.space/Primary Flight at Miami Art Basel 2009, Public Provocations at Carhartt Projects in Germany 2009, Will Rise at Robert Berman Gallery Los Angeles, and Letters First, a traveling show in Los Angeles/Tokyo/Seoul/Barcelona 2006-2008.

Dylan Maddux has been a photographer for ten years and is now segueing into music videos. Born in Santa Monica, Dylan moved to Northern California when he was eight. He first put his hands on a camera after high school graduation and working on ski lifts at Lake Tahoe. After shooting snow boarders for fun and profit he went to San Francisco City College to study photography. In his second year, an instructor convinced him to leave the program early because he was getting so much work. His edgy original images lead to work with San Francisco’s street fashion lines. His work has been shown in Yerba Buena Center of Arts, 5024 SF Gallery, 111 Minna, and FTC Japan.  Dylan’s love of travel and challenging locations have taken him to numerous assignments in over a dozen countries. In March, he directed and shot his first music video by JBoog featuring Richie Spice in Kingston, Jamaica. “A sketchy ass place for a short white guy takin’ shots in the musical ghettos. I loved the place and the people.” “So what’s the deal with the Known Gallery show?”  “The American Dream Project is in line with where I’m at in my life…it’s one of chaos and mayhem. The motivation was cash and gorgeous women. I loved every moment of it, although it wasn’t the end result. Now my energies need to be redirected to a new emotion. The shots I created for this project exemplify my life at this time and this show is intended to put a cap on that. It’s all moving fast and so should I…next stop, Bangkok.”
